  • Rome today.........Derby tomorrow!

Well, here it is, my last day - after three weeks of touring Europe, and where better to end it than in Rome?!?

Since last time, I successfully crossed the waters from Croatia to Italy - although a bit strange being on a boat full of Italians.

.....I landed in Ancona Wednesday morning, to find I had three hours to kill before the next train to Rome. What's in Ancona - nothing!!

.....then yesterday, I had a day out in Napoli (Naples). Now this place makes Coventry look good - sorry if I offend anyone in Coventry! As soon as I stepped out of the station, I felt I was going to be mugged / killed!

  • Ancona here I come....

After lazing around in Croatia (made it to Brač yesterday on the ferry.....and back!), I just have a little time to kill before setting sail for Ancona!

Croatia has been a heavy mix of rain and hot sun - but little to do at night, and no one to drink with, and I don`t like to drink alone!

    Generally relaxing though.

  • Get me out of Croatia!!

Well I wanted to see Croatia, and now I want to leave!!

Unfortunately, i`m here for one more night.

So far today, it has done nothing but piss it down (heavier rain than seen in England for a while). There are beaches, but full of stones not sand, and the only food you can seem to get is ice cream or pizza!

I`m trying to get on a boat out of here tomorrow night, to Italy, but couldn`t understand a word of what she was saying (wish they spoke ENGLISH) - so if I catch this, I may end up in Serbia! Think the safer option may be by train - at least I seem able to read a train timetable.

  • And now to Croatia......

Well I took an early train yesterday morning, and an overnight train last night (yet another one!!)

Seeing Zagreb - nothing really there, but cheap

....and now Split, hoping to go to one of the islands later today, before finishing over in Italy later this week.

Message for Justine.....can you ask Tracey if she can pick me up from East Mids airport next Saturday @ 12,55 afternoon please, cheapest flight I could find, from Rome with "Sleazy Jet"

  • My last day in Budapest

    Hello!!

Well despite it being expensive (in comparison with other Eastern European cities), i'm spending a third day in Budapest - and must say, it's not the best place i've been to.

Good things about this city, cooler, cheap 'good-ish' accomodation, 38 degrees in the spa / swimming pools.

Bad things, too easy to get lost - esp for someone with poor sense of direction like me! So similar to Prague, but dearer!

  • Blame the Keyboard

Justine, in answer to your last comment..........I blame the keyboard on the PC not the excesses of alcohol for my poor typing - I knew you'd get the gist, and couldn't be arsed to keep correcting it!!!

    Honest.

  • Budapest - Prague with a different name

Well here I am in budapest - and today im feeling pretty hungover!

Stopping in a nice hostel (!) in the ccentre of pest - only about 8 pound a night. Got drinking with some people from Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Iceland and before I knew it one drink led to twwo, three, five....six!

Now i,m going to try and find the baths for a relaxing hour or two!

Tomorrow, Zagreb or Vienna - as always i have no plaan so will decidde at the station!

Haydn, i decide not to check out your ""clubs""

  • Heading further east

Well after a night in Zakopane, i'm back in Krakow writing this.

After deciding i'd spend another night 'sleeping on a train'. Budapest is my next destination, as I need a soak in their baths! As always, I leave things to the last minute, and couldn't get a sleeping compartment, so just have a seat. I shall be holding onto my wallet all night (I hear Haydn saying "for a change Gary"!!).

Message to Justine.......give Kirsty a proper curry, get a takeaway jalfrezi for her, it does haydn no harm!)

Message to Haydn.....Ay up, I give Derby one season!!!

Message to Cookie......you can't beat the sausages in Germany and Poland, but the women look much, much better!!!

  • where have I been?

If I say 'Zakopane' - would you know where I spent last night?

  • I'm still alive!

Not the best of train journeys here - in a compartment with just one other person (Czech or Polish I don't know).

How I wish it would rain, other than a few spots here - really hot!

Krakow, really nice place, nice and cheap - even my 3* hotel (need some proper sleep rather than hostel / train). Had change from 15 pound after lunch dinner and 5 or 6 beers!

Feel safer here than I did in Prague - again not sure where to go next, may have to be Warsaw since trains don't run anywhere else on a regular basis. As for Krakow, I have one more night here - where I shall go sight seeing to Auschwitz.

    Adious for now!
